Upgrading ADSL, what happens?

I phoned Nildram today to upgrade from 512Kb to 1Mb and they said it will take 10 days to complete.

I forgot to ask the guy on the phone: why does it take so long?
Is it something to do with BT?

They probably have to retest your line to see if its capable of handling 1Mb.

Could be wrong though.

Because BT have to swap something over in the exchange for your line, probably onto a different DSLAM or something so you're waiting for them to schedule it in.
