That is ridiculous, the Bug is amazing. They were so strong and durable. The old ones used to go on forever. Quite a few of them are still around.

Didn't the Bond Bug have the same alloy engine as the Hillman Imp, and a ridiculous top speed for a three wheeler.;)

No, that was the Bond 875 with the complete Imp subframe mounted in the back. that engine was based on the coventry climax engine, they used the detuned Imp commercial version because of the reediculous speed, I think someone like Stirling Moss did 100MPH on some racetrack with a bond 875 before it was launched.

The bug had the all aluminium 700cc engine from reliant, later enlarged to 750cc. It was pretty quick for its day, and most people now put 850cc reliant robin engines in them.

I have one in lots of pieces and one close to finished, lack of time is the big killer for me, and having about 23 cars last time I counted doesn't make it easier.

Or for the oldies amongst us, the Vauxhall Victor. This car could rust faster than a Lancia, and that takes some doing .Download Failed (1)

So it rusted more quickly than you could get from 0 to 60 in it..

As for other crap cars, I can't believe no-one's mentioned the Capri..

noooo, not the Capri - well ok maybe a 1.6 Laser, but did you see the mint 2.8i on '5th Gear' this week - it was fantastic. ;)

Yeah, it was the 1.6 laser I was referring to...

Actually, we had mainly second hand cars when I was young. They all had faults but that could be due to bad maintenance by previous drivers.

I remember my mum's MG Midget. Lovely little car until it went wrong. When we took it to the Garage, the mechanic found it had an Austin 1100 (http://www.motorbase.com/vehicle/by-id/295/) engine (as in Engine from) in it..

Had to get rid of it though. My mum was driving to work one day, and was going up hill with her foot on the floor and a milk float over took her. She realised the engine had a slight lack of power then.

I remember when there were 5 of us (plus climbing/walking gear) in a mates Astra climbing the long hill out of Betws-y-Coed towards Capel Curig when we were overtaken by a Reliant Robin - how we laughed :D

Well how I got interested in Bond bugs (Reliant Engined) was back in the mid 80's I was driving a company Van. It was a 950cc Fiesta, I saw this orange wedge shaped 3 wheeler pull out of a slip road onto the A40, and I decided to put my foot down to catch it and get a closer look..... not a chance!

It probably had an 850cc Robin engine, the other trick is to modify the later Rialto back axle to fit so it cruises nicely at 75MPH.

I have another Reliant engined vehicle and will try to find a link to its picture on the net, it is a 3 wheel truck with 850cc engine. It carries 750Kg and does 45-50MPh flat out screaming, but boy is it quick upto 35MPH from the lights if you can change gear quick enough. :D

Here it is http://www.3wheelers.com/gal162.html
