Slight contratdiction

"Garry says: "encourage friends and family to join in, they can also order a free Walk-o-Meter"

"this offer is limited to one per household"

surely its the children who need to be encourgaed - it too late for some of us - so limit it to 2.54 per household

They're supposed to rattle, that little rattly thing is what counts your steps, your footfalls make it bob back and forth and work the microswitches.

Ours arrived this morning - and I'd forgotten to tell Mrs T I'd ordered it. She was on the phone asking if I'd ordered something from Walkers. Jr T was extremely excited apparently, standing by the front door shouting, "Kibbits! kibbits!" (his word for crisps), "kibbits through the letterbox!"

He's going to be very disappointed when he sees there's no food in the package. How chilling that a two-year-old already recognises the corporate logo of Walkers and associates it with tasty junk food. :erm:

lol don't know, I've not seen it yet - it was only because Mrs T phoned to ask if I'd ordered something that I know it's waiting for me. She decided not to open the pack as we thought it might not be an ideal toy for the boy to get his wee hands on.

Is there a reset button on it?

Well my watch's battery has lasted 4 years, and I'm always using the glow on it.

The battery can be replaced aswell, says take it to your jewellers (can't spell) to get it replaced.

I had about 350 steps on mine when I got it, got it on me. I did 146 steps to go down stairs and make a sandwhich :erm:

I got my 2 ordered from the fat TV program a few of days ago.

I have averaged about 5000 - 7000 steps a day max.
Total of 16000 so far.

It was hard to setup at first, it wanted to count more than it should no matter what, so it's no longer on my belt & in my shirt pocket wehere it is very much more accurate (out 1 in 100).

IT was fun trying to set the step distance etc, getting funny looks while doing funny walk/measuring lol

Well I could never see how anyone could do 10,000 steps in a day unless they are going for a 5 mile run in addition to working, playing, housework and all the minutae of a typical day.
I reckon those who said they had done 5000 steps have calibrated theirs wrongly because try as I may I could never get more than 2000 steps day with my WW one. It's a good one that I BOUGHT and have now lost accidently on purpose because I became enslaved to it. :disturbd:

I walk to my mate's house maybe 3 or 4 times a week - about a five minute walk. Then there's the walk to/from the bus stop from/to my parents - about ten minutes. Oh and shopping at Tesco. I reckon I can do the 10,000 easy.

I ordered mine Wednesday night last week - and it arrived Monday 10am this week!! Bril. I used the thing from when it arrived until bedtime yesterday - and totted up a grand total of .........795.

I think the word SLOB is appropriate. OK, OK, I work from home and run a mini-business that means I sit at the keyboard much of the day "being creative". However, I did also
1. Empty 2 x 4 drawer filing cabinets so that I could relocate them and then refill them
2. Re-routed all the power supply cables to 3 machines/ ancillaries on the home network
3. Mended some kids toys for a neighbour (I like 'mending' things)
4. Drove to Tesco (I do not fancy walking down the motorway!)
5. Cooked dinner (cannelloni, broccoli) vacummed the hall, stairs, landing

So I thought I had done quite well!

Today my wife borrowed it and is wearing it at work. I wonder what that will show when she returns. Something to make me feel even worse no doubt.

Mrs T mentioned the 10,000 steps thing but I didn't know where she got the figure from. It certainly is unrealistic - I went for an even longer walk this lunchtime and my daily total is now at 5,334 ... almost as much as I managed during the entire day yesterday, but all I'm going to do for the rest of today is sit at my desk and then drive home, so my daily total is unlikely to exceed 6,000.

I walked for about 40 minutes today. If I get an entire hour for lunch tomorrow I'll see how much higher I can push it, but I'm willing to bet it's not going to get anywhere near 10,000.

Incidentally, my walking pace equates to about 3mph on level ground, so I think I probably covered about 2 miles - out from the office, down to the local playing field, twice round it (three junior footy fields in size), plus one lap of one of the pitches for a little extra distance, then back to the office.

Either it the free one doesn't work right, or i have been hopping most of the day without my knowlege.

5,927 today in all. Obviously I spend more time wandering round the office than I thought :disturbd: Must see if I can break the 6,000 barrier tomorrow. I really need to get a life ... :D

What a good idea - the blasted thing doesn't work! I've just arrived back at the office after walking for almost an entire hour, yet if this pedometer is to be believed I have so far taken fewer steps today than this time yesterday. I'm on 5,057, and this time yesterday I posted a score of 5,334. I reckon, assuming yesterday's score was accurate (but I suppose there's no reason why it should be), that my score right now ought to be around the 6,000 mark. I feel cheated! :fit:

From what I can gather from my own experiences, you would need to walk for about 2 hours a day.

I think they may have been surprised by the demand - the chief executive was on the radio this morning, he said they have already sent out half a million of them.

I do walk fast. :) I would expect to cover six or seven miles in two hours.

That's not fast, average walking pace is regarded as 3.3 mph. :)

Well, that's a relief. Mrs T is always telling me to slow down. That means she's a slow walker :D

Is it just me that thinks it somewhat ironic that the two companies (Walkers and McDonalds) who are giving these gadgets away are probably the two who pump more fat into this nation's population than most others?

No, it is precisely because they pump so much fat into the population that they are doing this. They are trying to improve their image (without necessarily doing something about the problem)

10,000 a day is nothing! I walk to work and walk home again and do the same at lunch times and thats 7,000 for me in something like 50 minutes

Why don't they just sell stuff with less fat in? That would do some REAL good.

Apparently there is a backlog - but they are taking steps to deal with it.

I found them very sensitive to what it counts as a step
I.e. walk from my kitchen to study = 104 steps actual 28 steps
Perhaps another dud!?
