Lost Connection?? Help!

On monday i returned home from work and switched on my PC only to find i could not access my e-mail or internet. I though this may of been a temporary fault but as of this morning my connection is still not working. The rdy and sync lights on the modem are both on as with the u/s and d/s flashing as usual but i can't access the internet. Is this a problem with my PC or is it my connection to the network?

Have you tried rebooting the modem. Take out power lead, wait 10 seconds and replug.

yeah, i've tried to reboot the modem. I've tried to "repair" the connection but it says it is unable to.

Check your firewall isnt blocking the connection. If the sync and rdy lights are locked 9/10 that means the modem is OK and i would check the PC out... could be wrong tho.

What's your IP address ?

Start ... Run .... CMD

Type ipconfig /All

Is it a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx ?

Cheers for the speedy replies, i don't have a firewall running and the windows firewall is off. i'm at work at the moment so i can't check my IP but when i checked yesterday i'm sure it was 169..... something, i also tried to access the modem config but couldn't.

If it was a 169.xxx.xxx.xxx then you aren't getting an IP address from NTL

Check the tcp/ip settings, make sure that the IP and DNS are set to get automatically.

Also take a look @ my 169 ip check post here... do you get the 192 IP that i posted about?

yeah, when i disconnect the coax cabel it shows a 192...... IP address and i can access the modem config page, but when i reconnect the cable it changes back to 169..... could it be a local problem?

Yeah, its not a problem with your PC its the modem.

PM me your postcode / MAC adress and ill take a peep for you.
