View Full Version : Speed upgrades - some (stupid) questions

Hello all

Please forgive me for asking what's possibly a series of stupid questions.

I have an NTL SACM, in the Harrogate area, and am subscribed to the 1Mb service.

Should I have been made aware by NTL of when my local area is due to be upgraded? Should it already have happened? Should I now be steaming along at a hearty 1.5Mb?

I haven't been following the progress of the speed upgrades but (probably naively) assumed that they'd just proceed without any intervention required on my part. It's only now when I had a browse of the board that I noticed most SACM users seem to have been upgraded already.

In fact my speeds seem to have degraded lately. Today so far has been diabolical, as indicated by the test results at the bottom of my message.

So, does anyone have any advice? I must be honest and admit I've been trying to avoid calling NTL Tech Support or Customer Service - I have no grudge against the people at the end of the phone but the last time I was on hold for just over an hour before getting to speak to one of them.

Miz.

1st 128K took 4172 ms = 31417 Bytes/sec = approx 261 kbits/sec
2nd 128K took 3156 ms = 41531 Bytes/sec = approx 346 kbits/sec
3rd 128K took 2188 ms = 59905 Bytes/sec = approx 498 kbits/sec
4th 128K took 2938 ms = 44613 Bytes/sec = approx 371 kbits/sec

Harrogate being former C&W didn't have any capacity issues, so should all have been upgraded the first week, barring 1Mb STBs who are awaiting Samsung swapouts.

From your speeds you're either not on 1.5Mb at all or on a *very* poor line - if you PM me your MAC I can take a quick look for you.
