 How did the conversation decay so rapidly that you called him stupid? I've had a few head-bangingly irritating CS calls in my time (not just with NTL) but I don't recall ever abusing the person I was talking to. :p:

Reading ... well it is up ...
But I'm finding random problems ... like sites I can not reach, but if I VPN into work I can then get them. DNS ?

Or your proxy. Try changing it.

nope does not appear to be that .. tried serveral....
But with or without proxy does work if I am connected through VPN to work and then go out via that link. Its only happening on certain sites (US ones) so I guess there is some problem NTL network wise.

My limited understanding of how the internet works would suggest that it's DNS then. That too is changeable, but public, trustworthy DNS can be a little harder to come by.

OK, so he was stupid :D
just doing his job i spose :)
oh and since its all back and working ive noticed it running slighly slower - web pages take longer to load and sometimes time out and my other d/ls are just crawling along ...
so maybe its not all fixed.
You'll get the odd issue when 9 UBRs go into lights-out management mode. Fixed pretty quickly, but it's possible the local caches got a hit as well.
well as with most ntl things i will ignore it and it will fix its self :)
FYI, there are general UK to US connectivity problems this afternoon. :)
still seems pretty slow - not sure where this site lives but took me a good 5 mins to work my way though page not found etc msgs :)
if its still bad by the morning i will cry :)

Newp they were ok, they are in Winnersh, not Reading Disti site :)
Think it unbalanced the uBRs tho as some CATV kit was upset by the probs + modems didn't come back online evenly. Should be ok by now though.

Modem counts per upstream were all over the place when the ubers first started accepting modems. They should have been re-aligned during the next couple of scheduled re-balancing scans. Every 30 mins the last time I heard ;)
so it should all be fixed then?
time for a restart of my modem then :)

there is still an DNS issue (not proxy) in my area (RG10) for certain US sites. VPN to work solves the problem (but thats not the point).
Unless the 'connectivity' issue between UK and US (mentioned above) is still ongoing?
watford area died last night ...
showing now on the status page.

Hmm
Still some strange problems
Anyone see this from their normal NTL network:

I can not get the above, proxy or no proxy, but its fine via VPN to a different network. Still smacks of DNS probs?

CAn anyone else test the above now please ?
THis is madness ... its difficult enough to know if my uS servers are working, when I find that the Reading Area DNS / proxy whatever is not like it used to be. Even specifing a different proxy is now hit or miss ..
thanks

That link will never work - it's malformed.

ok ... now anyone get
http://www.imperial.ac.uk
Something really strange is going on here...
The imperial college is working fine, the other one is returning a blank page with an http 404 status.
Both work fine here (Ntl Bedfordshire).

grrrrrrr - thanks - the COllege one is ok ...
What is going on. I'm sure the radiation-protection one ... etc is not an NTL issue (but my host says it is).
Stop it - can get the radiation one in Bedford.
I can not get it in Reading
I can not get it in London (on a non-NTL network).
It must be a DNS type problem , but at the host end in the US???!?
i can get imperial ok.
i can get ion-active ok
cant get to radiation-protection.
