Apologies if this has been covered, I am now on my 12th hour of trying to sort this out.

I have bought a Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless Broadband Router, which is connected to my PC and NTL Cable Modem by ethernet cable and is supplying me with my usual internet connection. I also have a Netgear MA521 Wireless PC card for my wifes laptop. This is wirelessly connected to the router and is receiving an internet connection without problem. Both machines are running XP Home (SP2).

Now comes the problem. I have been trying all day without success to configure some kind of file and printer sharing. I have run the Network Set Up Wizard and Wireless Network Set Up wizard so many times I can recite each command. Neither machine will connect to the other. When running the wizard on the laptop it recognises the internet connection but wants to use a PCI adaptor for the network which isn't connected to anything, the PC doesn't list any kind of equipment for connection to the network. I have the router connected to my PC via a USB dongle that converts the ethernet cable to a USB adaptor, I have no network card, is this the problem? :Yikes:

it recognises the internet connection but wants to use a PCI adaptor for the network which isn't connected to anything Try disabling the PC network card in device manager. They must also be in the same workgroup and subnet to see each other (I assume you are using DHCP on the router to assign IP addresses to the PC and laptop).

Check that you can ping one computer from the other. If you can, its probably the workgroup settings are not the same.

Thanks to all for the help. Turned out to be the Firewall that was blocking the connection. All sorted now, we can both print, share files and access the net from different rooms in the house.
