Any ideas how i can get a new ip address?

Currently have one windows me computer connected via ethernet downstairs, connecting to internet fine.
But also want to to have internet capability upstairs with windows Xp computer and long cable (which i can substitute for first downstairs cable when needed - they don't need to run together) running into ntl box
Problem exists when i connect Xp computer via cable - LAN detected and running, but no IP connection is detected and cannot be repaired. Any ideas how to sort this or am i doing it an incredibly stupid way?

Any help appreciated! Pete

50420s suggestion will fix this.

The other option is to buy the xbox option from NTL this will give you a second IP address for £5 a month, but for that price you could buy a cheap wired (not wireless) router which would perform NAT and mean you only need the one NTL IP address. It would also act as a hardware firewall, a further security benefit.

:Yikes: You mean NTL put the price of a service down.

Would be a suitable router for two wired products at £32, at that price payback is 16 months, so still a worthwhile investment as you get a firewall also.
