Is my ntl cable modem, in westminster, ip/sec compatible? I won't to run a vpn over it and need to be compatible with it. Two people at ntl technical support didn't know so I thought I would ask the experts! thanks

:welcome:

Which cable modem is it that you are using? I have run vpns through a 3com CMX and ntl:home (ambit) 120 with no problems.

As far as i know all cable modems on the ntl network are compatible.

VPNs can be nasty to get working... are you using a router?

It is the ntl home 120. I am looking on the ntl website for the upload speed but cannot find it. Is it 256k on both 750k and 1.5 mb services? What cable modem do you get on the 1.5mb? thanks

The upload on the 1.5mb service is 256kbps, and on 750k is 128kbps.

The cable modem is not dependent on the service level, but more when you signed up for the service.

Are you using a router? this can cause problems as the client ip address and the source ip address will be different, and can cause the server to reject the connection.

Also, make sure that you are not trying to make a VPN connection on port 80 or 8080 as this may well be interfered with by the ntl proxies
