Is ne1 else having probs. in Coventry CV3. My connection keeps droppin, sometimes for a few minutes and sometimes hours (9hrs on Sunday eve. and 3hrs tonight).

I have managed to report the fault, after a 40 min. wait on the phone, but I was just wondering if ne1 else is having probs. or is it a fault with my line.

:welcome:

I've not seen anything on the Service Status Page about Coventry (of course, that doesn't mean there is no problem...it doesn't seem to get updated very well  )

Do you use a cable modem or a set-top box to connect?

Actually...it's always best to give as much info as possible, so that the ntl people here can provide help... Try this post for the sort of info they find useful: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=15305 :)

Also may be worth having a read of - http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=14312 - it seems people in some other areas are having dropped connection problems... no ideas if it's related to yours, but you never know...

OK Matt here is a bit more info:

1)What, specifically, is your issue?
a) Is there a specific time that this issue is most prevalent?
I am on the 1mb service which has been upgraded the 1.5mb since 1/8/04. The connection seems to get dropped at peak times during the evenings (although I am at work during the day it is usually ok in the morning before I leave).

b) How long has this issue been going on? (days, weeks, months etc)
About two weeks

2) Do you have cable TV? If so, is there any reception degradation?
I have anologue cable TV which is ok (pictures on channel 4 are cr*p but they have always been like that)

3) Have you contacted customer support about this problem? If so, what did they say?
Yes, support checked the line/modem and confirmed it was dead (luckily it was still off when I got through. It came back on about 15 mins aftrer I called)- An engineer will call me. If he doesn't I have to ring back.

4) What troubleshooting steps have you taken to resolve this problem? (aka: if you haven't tried to help yourself, why should *we* help you?)
Rebooted PC & modem. Checked that PC works ok with a "dial-up" account.

5 Who you are and what you have
a) Where in the country are you?
Coventry CV3

b) What is your operating system?
Windows XP-SP2

c) What is your home network setup? Provide details.
SMC router running 2 winxp PC's plus sometimes a laptop

d) If you have more than one computer, is the problem occuring on all other machines?
Yes - On all PC's the connection is dead

e) Are you running a firewall of any sort? Have you ever installed one? Did you try to turn it off during troubleshooting?
Yes - Norton Personal Firewall 2003, XP-SP2 firewall is also on at the minute.
Yes - but connection was dead

f) Please supply a traceroute from you to www.bbc.co.uk (http://www.bbc.co.uk/) in text format
N/A

6) Further Info: If you're posting about:
a) Connectivity issues: Please post a line test (http://www.broadbandreports.com/linequality)
N/A
b) Speed issues: Please post at least one speed test which tests speed in both directions.
N/A
c) For latency issues please post traceroutes and pings to some major sites in the UK. www.bbc.co.uk (http://www.bbc.co.uk/), www.nildram.net (http://www.nildram.net/), etc
N/A

Thx

Thanks for the info. It should keep JustAnotherN00b happy if he pops along here ;) :)

Hopefully the engineer will be able to sort out your problem. If you don't get a call back / visit, then keep us up to date & hopefully JAN00b or one of the other ntl people here will be able to help :)
