My previous modem was a Motorola 4100 and I got at the modem data I needed by browsing to http://192.168.100.1/.

Now I have an NTL:Home 200 cable modem (Ambit model 08004EU) and that URL does not work. Can anyone please tell me if it is possible to interrogate the modem this way or must I rely on using DocsDiag from the command prompt?

:welcome: to the site

you should be able to access the config page for the Ambit modem, although you will find it is quite different to the one for the surfboard.

For some reason you have to reboot some of the Ambit modems before you can access the config page, i have been told this is something to do with the firmware. Also make sure that you do not have a proxy server specified as this will prevent you from accessing the page.

Rebooting the modem solved the problem and I can now see everything I need.

Many thanks for a prompt response. :)

When I saw the title of this I had visions of a modem strapped to a chair, in a darkened room, with one big powerful light shinning at it .... "you will work" ...... :disturbd:

Hmm... just cos I'm nosey, I tried this. It asks me for a user nameand password tho? Personally, I prefer the proposed strapping to a chair and bright light scenario! :D

Great analogy!!! To continue.... It delivered the goods as soon as I gave it a good old booting ;)

user name and password are "root" and "root" or "admin" and "admin" works for some of them as well.

Scary title, Honestly, connecting a lie detector to a modem honestly wont help you much....although the questioning would be interesting

You : You, Ambit modem, tell me where my bandwidth has gone

Modem : Flashes D/S light

You : You're witholding something arent you, tell me

Modem : Flashes U/S light

You : What was that? you've been donating bandwidth to the Order of Randomly Gathered Youth? but why? what do they need your bandwidth for?

Modem : All lights go out.

You: Damn! lost another one....

(Yes Im bored :P)

Aha! Here's where a little information is a dangerous thing! On my status page is says that the maximum download speed is 600000bps. Does this relate to my actual speed? Thought we were all being upgraded to 750? Also, speed test shows just under 600. Hmmm! :-) Sorry!

Yep, that figure relates to your current speed - 600kbit/sec

The 600k service is being upgraded to 750k, but not everywhere at the same time.

See the Upgrade thread: http://www.cableforum.co.uk/board/showthread.php?t=14837

Also make sure that you do not have a proxy server specified as this will prevent you from accessing the page.

Only if you've misconfigured the proxy settings :) In the Advanced options (where you specify the proxy server name and port for HTTP and FTP) there's an exceptions box. In there you should have 192.168.* Always worked for me when I had my old modem.

My new modem requires me to specify an IP of 192.168.100.2 and reboot the PC before I can access the page. A tad annoying, but it does give me loads of information about the modem and what it's been upto.

Is it safe?

I have the NTL Home 200, Ambit 08004EU CM but I cant access that page by 192.168.100.1 or 192.168.100.2

How do I get to it?

Thanks
