Hello all my techy friends!!

This maybe answered pretty quickly in which case it can be locked.

I think (but am not sure) That I have recieved the upgrade. I live in northants on NN10 8HX postal code which was not due for the upgrade till september. I have noticed though that my downstream seems to have increased a little.

On a download I used to average 90-100KB/s on a good download. Now this seems to be around 120KB/s and I have seen it hit 140KB/s although never over this. For a start I expected the speeds to be quicker than they are right now. I expected to get 170-180KB/s on a good download?? So have I got the upgrade? Or partly and am still teething?

Also as well as this my Upload seems to have suffered greatly. I now seem to average 16-20KB/s whereas before I (Think) got the (sort of??) Upgrade I would sit between 29-32KB/s whilst uploading.

I think maybe I am just experiancing the beginnings of the upgrade so will wait before enquiring to NTL as in fairness I am not supposed to have any more until september.......

Maybe one of the NTL tech could shed a little more light on this for me??

I would be most greatful and thank you in advance.

P.S. The drop in upload is more of a problem than the unexpectedly small increase in downstream. :)

Mines been absolute crap since the upgrade. Its been rock solid for almost 2 yrs, now its barely solid for 2 days.
Its often worse than that, yeh ok so its over a meg, but it affects even browsing.
Been on to CS and tech support, they say my ubr isnt over subscribed,
tho it seems to be worse early evening.
Seems its fecked the whole thing up, and i,m paying for the inconvenience. :(

On the new 1.5MB service, you *should* get 170-180Kb/s download and 25-30Kb/s upload.

What speed tests have you tried (if any). It could be the sites that you are downloading from arent fast enough.

What ftp sites are you trying, and have you tried several?

Try www.dslzoneuk.net/speedtest.php - make sure you select your correct speed/plan.

I also got speed problems, and I fixed it by using another NTL Proxy, seems the one that the modem normally connects to is either been overloaded or has bugs, this only happened when my area was getting upgraded to 1.5mbit.

Ive tried a different proxy as suggested by tech support, and it didnt help the cut offs one bit.
And time and again here [and on an old defunct ntl related board] that Robin Walkers speed test is the one to use, if its not will someone give us a decent one that everyone should use?
cheers.
And i,m not really interested in speed that much, just a decent connection,[and those tests show its erratic at times]which is something i dont have anymore. :(

oH "ERRATIC" ??
I was thinking you were on about some "erotic" uploads when you got a speed increase.

I nearly rang up & rejoined NTL. :D

I have based my problems on a torrent site that i use. I always get MAX upload when seeding...but not anymore.

This is a site where people have 10MB upload speeds so speeds are always high.

I know people on 8MB cable in holland and they download the same torrent at 700+KB/s and can upload at 80KB/s

Theirs remains the same whereas mine has fallen and become erratic. I have not had time to test it on a proper site due to being at work alot but will do the test later tonight and post the results here.

From the replies though it seems I am not alone?
