hi, im hoping that some1 here can help me because ntl have told me there is nothing they are planning to do to resolve my issue, because gaming is not 1 of their priorities

I have recently upgraded to the 1 mb service , and use my broadband
service to play multi-player online fps games

my problem only seems to occur at the weekends, or late in the evening.
the problem being, when i connect to the game server, i am unable to play,
due to a poor connection between myself and the server. i get on-screen
messages saying connection timeout, and observe massive spikes on the in
game lagometer. this is the same no matter what server i try to connect to
(always uk servers), and i have tried various servers all giving me the
same problem. At "less busy times" i have no problems connecting and playing on these servers. it seems to be a simple bandwidth issue but im hoping mibbe some1 has another idea?

i play quake 3 ctfs on various jolt and savage servers

i only have 1 pc, use windows xp, i live in johnstone, i dont use a firewall.

i have tried re-booting my modem when this problem occurs, and it makes no difference.

i have e-mailed and telephoned ntl technical support many times, every time to be told they cannot help

any help will be appreciated :)

can you run some traceroutes and continuous pings to the servers that you are having problems with when they occur, then we can see where abouts the problems are occurring.

It may be an oversubscription issue, if you pm me the mac address of your cable modem then i will have a look on monday for you

oh and :welcome: to the site :)

monkeybreath does work for ntl, and is very helpful, so you can trust him with your cable modem's MAC address :)

I'm no expert but the timings to the UBR look way off - mine are always less than 10ms

 I am having a similar problem.

Every morning between 6am & 8am, my connection is SERIOUSLY intermittent, sometimes disconnecting for a few seconds, sometimes a few minutes.

It is more reliable in the daytime, with only a few glitches each day, and the evening tends to be even better, (apart from last night when it was worse than usual).

This has been on-going for months. ntl have changed my connection in the street, saying that I was connected the the wrong point, but this has made no difference.

Any ideas ???? I'm starting to get desperate here.

Connection to the wrong point usually means that they have moved the cable up or down the tappings to get a better SNR and return power to your property.

if you look here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/signal.html) you will find some diagnostics for this path

If you are using USB to connect to the modem or stb go ethernet

If you are using a firewall check here (http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robin.d.h.walker/cmtips/security.html) to ensure you have it set correct
