Does anybody know anything about car stereos I am changing a bloughpunt that came with the wifeââ‚ ¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢s car a nissan to a JVC cd player but the connections at the back are completely different that in it self isnââ‚Âà ‚¬ÃƒÂ¢Ã¢â‚¬Å¾Ã‚¢t a prob as i will just crimp new connectors on
But my prob is how do i know what the existing wires do as i have no wiring drawings for the existing stereo
I had enough this afternoon so i put the old one back for the time being but forgot you need a code which i dont have as the stereo came with the car new and we are the second or third owners.

The JVC one i have is an old one that i also do not have the code for as the friend we bought it off has a new car and has put an old cassette in the car she sold so we can have the cd player
but she had that put in by a garage after hers got nicked so when we asked her for the code she said she didnâ₠¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t know it and never knew you needed a code as the garage just put the stereo in and didnâ₠¬Ã¢â€žÂ¢t tell her ?
Alternativly does anybody know where off the internet to get unlock codes

Halfords is your answer, they usually help with saying which car/model adaptor kit you require can also get fascia surrounds

I swapped a 206 stereo for a new one, and it cost £20 for the new wiring (clips between new stereo and old adapter) and the fascia

Will they also help with the unlocking even thought i have no proof off owner ship for the new stereo (By the way it is not a nicked one)

Personally if fitting a new in car CD player I would fit one of the MP3 head units... 10 hours music from a single CD, tracks named etc and no need to route cable to the back of the car for a CD Changer...

but Halfords yes, or any smaller car audio center.

(Example - to fit a kenwood (ISO harness to kenwood cable already on it) into a nissan (proprietary harness - £20 at halfords, £5 at my local car audio center)

as far as I know though the current nissans and those from 1992 onwards have ISO harnesses... (2 plugs, one has 8 pins in it, one has less)

and yes, decodes are about £15 at most places...

where abouts do you live? I may be able to recommend somewhere with better prices.

Don't think they'll help with unlocking unless you can convince them, I have found in the past that many smaller electrical repairs will unlock them or some of the more "back street" car audio specialists...

Call any Auto Electrician they will unlock them for you, one round here charges £5. All he does is put it on a laptop and deletes the code and adds a new one.
