A denial of service vulnerability exists in the IDirectPlay4 Application Programming Interface (API) of Microsoft DirectPlay. Applications that implement this API are typically network-based multi-player games. An attacker who successfully exploited this vulnerability could cause the application to fail.

Have you chosen the correct update for your OS and version of DirectX? Also, try using Windows Update, as this should download the correct patch.

I had the same problem as WNA. I downloaded the first update there labelled as being for 'windows xp and sp 1'. It worked on one of the other XP machines we have here, but not on this one. So I scrolled down the page a bit and found the one for direct x version 9 - and now it works! turns out the update towards the top of the page is for dx v. 8 .. !
