Did a search for this topic, could not find match, so here's my question:
In the last couple of days, I have had several warnings from my AV/firewall about a "mutant bagle". I run McAfee, which is always up to date, & use OE for mail. Some mail I have tried to send out with attached pix was stopped due to the above mutant. I then virus scanned the entire PC- including the files which I was unable to mail out, and the contents of my mail. The scans put me in the all clear, no viruses detected. So why did the AV prog stop me from mailing out the files if they were clean? Very puzzling.... Any help much appreciated.

are you using stationary in outlook express? or sending messages as html?
if so, try sending plain text messages instead, as this may resolve it.
ntl have starting filtering the bagle virus now, but it has been recognised that it is blocking some senders who are not infected when they are trying to send html messages from OE. hopefully, changing to plain text should resolve it for you. If not... post back ;)

Hi-
thanx for replies. No, can't read the old thread either, LOL.;)
Yes, I was using OE stationary, so you reckon that's the problem?? How come the alert only came up with a couple of mails and not all of them then? Very peculiar...I thought it was McAfee which was the problem....

from what i have heard at work, it is only certain stationary sets that are causing the problems, i know 'sunflowers' is one of them, but i haven't found out any of the others that affect it yet... if you can tell me others that are causing problems it will be a great help :tu: :D

I would love to be able to help, but all OE stationary I use, I have made myself!!! I use the Stationary Wizard that comes with OE. One of my hobbies, making different stats....So, they were made with images from my PC, all clean & virus checked! Also, I might use the same stat for 20 mails, but this alert only came up for a couple.
Guess this is just gonna be one of those computer mysteries, the well known "gremlins" issue...:(
Toxsick Kitty, if you pm me with which version of Mcafee, and OE you are using, as well as your username for your email address, then i will have a word at work tomorrow, and escalate this if necessary.
hopefully they can get this issue sorted out, because it is recognised... in the mean time, just keep trying please :P:P

Hello again-
Same problem again a couple of times in the past couple of days, once with an email using the OE stationary "Clear Day" (the blue sky & clouds) and once with a plain white stat, but originally from Incredimail. I'm not a big fan of Incredi-****e, as it seems to be a very buggy prog that often causes probs for people from what I've heard.
I copied the error msg this time, here it is:
An unknown error has occurred. Subject "xxxxxyyyyyyzzzzzz", Account: 'pop.ntlworld.com', Server: 'smtp.ntlworld.com', Protocol: SMTP, Server Response: '554 550 This Mail has been blocked as our mail servers determine it could potentially contain the mutant Bagle 0 virus', Port: 25, Secure(SSL): No, Server Error: 554, Error Number: 0x800CCC6F
The operative word here being "Potentially"??????
I followed your advice and mailed the same mail out in plain text, without stationary, and it went through just fine.
Using Windows 98SE, and McAfee Version 7.03.6000. So that's pretty newish, still getting updated daily.
OK, let's hope this is just a bug in the NTL screening system, cuz I definitely don't have any bugs, LOL!

Sorry to keep on about this, but this NTL virus screening is still being abit crazy...
In the past week, the NTL screening has stopped me from using stationary, and even from inserting pictures into my emails.
Today it stopped all my Yahoo mails from getting to me, see attached screenprint. I am in Yahoo Groups, to which I send emails using stationary (went out OK past the NTL screening process) and later receive the mails back as part of my Groups mailing. ALL the mails were stopped from being returned to me! Am I right in thinking that the Server referred to is NTL?
This is very annoying/frustrating, to say the least....

Don't worry - It's been moved into the depths of wilderness ;)

I have just tried sending email using the sunflowers stationery and the mail server does not like it either - I keep getting the message about the mutant bagel virus too.

the sunflowers stationary is known to cause this issue (i am not quite sure why!)
if you send the message as plain text instead it will send ok.
