BT Sport Arrives on Virgin Media TV

# 15 August 2013, 13:31 by Cable Forum

Sports enthusiasts woke up today to a nice surprise. BT Sport has now officially launched on Virgin Media TV. Basically, what’s really happened is that BT has done a wholesale deal which allows Virgin Media to carry the BT Sport channels on cable television and Virgin Media has been quick to highlight the fact that it is now the only pay TV provider offering all Sky’s and BT’s sport channels in a single subscription. BT Sport is available Free for customers on the XL package, it is £15 per month for those on a lower TV package.

BT has so far refused to wholesale BT Sport to BSkyB because it would defeat it’s main purpose, which is to retain and win back broadband customers from Sky by offering them 38 free Premier League matches per season. BSkyB had responded to this by saying that it would not be wholesaling it’s Sky Sports channels on the BT Television service.

Virgin Media TV customers on the XL package, will find the channels on the following Channel numbers:-

ESPN 529
ESPN HD 530
BT Sport 1 547
BT Sport 2 548
BT Sport 1HD 549
BT Sport 2HD 550
