Virgin runs 4G technology trial

Virgin Media is engaged in a nationwide trial of so-called 4G wireless communications technology, after conducting a small-scale trial at the end of last year.
During December, VM erected a small cell mast in London’s Oxford Street, operating on the LTE (Long Term Evolution) standard.
The company remains tight-lipped on the locations of its test cells, indeed it refuses to confirm or deny whether it even plans to bid for any of the broadcast spectrum it would need were it to be interested in running a commercial service on its own network.
All that is clear for the time being is that Virgin plans to continue as a virtual operator running on Everything Everywhere’s network, where 4G coverage is due to start appearing by the end of this year.
