ITV buys ntl's share in news station ITV News

# 24 April 2004, 22:50 by Frank

ITV on Friday purchased ntl Group’s 35% stake in the rolling news channel ITV News. ITV has long since wanted to gain outright control of the station, and it has now secured this 100% ownership.

“Gaining total control of the ITV News Channel is a further demonstration of ITV’s commitment to news,” said Clive Jones, the top dog at ITV News Group, and went on to explain that ITV News was an already established 24-hour news source, competing with the likes of Sky News and BBC News 24.

According to DigitalSpy, ITV News launched on August 1, 2000, with ITN having the contract to supply news for the channel to 2009.
