We feel some channels from Sony, UKTV, CBS and Discovery channels will be axe in 2018.

We also feel Discovery may relaunch Travel Channel and DMAX as an one channel brand called "Alaska TV" after the takeover passed of Discovery's takeover of Scripps Networks Interactive.
Interesting, thank you!

It would be nice to get Sky Atlantic sooner rather than later, although I thought it may not be until the spring of 2019. I shall be glad to be proved wrong on that.

As for the channel being in SD only - what a bunch of prats Sky are!

Sorry, Paul, I wasn't criticising your choice of viewing. They are good enough films. My point was that there was virtually no original material on the pay TV channels on Christmas Day.

It is right that there should always be repeats that people can watch, but that is all we had! Over all those channels, I expect better.

Is Freesports expected to launch sometime in 2018?

It's says the Irish rebrand is to be confirmed, so I was confirming it for you

If the new Virgin news, sport and childrens channels do start, I wonder what they will call their children's channel?

Not from my point of view, it has to be an exceptional film for me to watch it more than once - neither of those fall into that category.

Agreed here too. As more and more people realise they are being sold short, they will ditch the broadcast channels in favour of streaming services, which give them much more choice and at less cost.

The broadcasters are indeed lazy. To be honest, I find that the main FREE terrestrial channels (BBC, ITV and Channel 4) have a better choice of programmes than any of the non-premium PAY TV channels. That is scandalous and it really makes me mad.

The only reason I continue to subscribe is because of the one or two good dramas that they spread thinly across the channels, but when I think of the money I could save by not having them...

I will give it another couple of years, I think, before I jump ship.

I have access to Netflix and Amazon, which are very good and as time passes we are watching them more and more. I think in a few years the whole scene will be completely different. It will be then that I may be making dramatic changes. Sport is the Game changer for me. In 2019 there are lots of sport broadcasting rights up for grabs, so we shall see what happens.

He might not have seen them before! A repeat isn't a repeat unless you've seen it before; i'm finding lots of things I've not seen before as throughout my life i've previously been out socialising or working in the evenings.

That link you posted has been on Media Boy Blog since December 20th.

As of right now the only thing that been confirmed is TV3, e3 and be3 will be rebrand under the Virgin name in 2018.

That is why we have given it the working names of Virgin A, Virgin B and Virgin C right now.

That's right, but most of us are not complaining about having choice. A lot of people value the ability to see some of their favourite shows and films again.

It's the lack of good quality, original material during the peak viewing time of the year that is the issue here.

In the good old days, the season of good programmes started in September and lasted until about May or June before the summer season of repeats took over. The Christmas period was laden with really good programmes and we used to look forward to the double Christmas edition of the TV magazines.

Nowadays, the whole year has become rather bland, with just the odd good programme coming through here and there. It's not good enough, and if the broadcasters don't get their act together pretty soon, they will pay with a steadily declining audience.

Unfortunately, that is precisely what I think will happen. In my circles, I have friends who are still reliant on the broadcast channels and they have been very vocal this year and noticeably over the Christmas holidays that there is nothing for them to watch on TV.

It is only a matter of time now before all but the most complacent diehards who will watch anything start looking for another alternative. That is when the streaming services will really take off and the financial viability of our pay tv and traditional channels will be at crisis point as they grapple will a huge loss in audience share.

Yes, I've always been of the opinion that the Irish changes should be on a separate thread as they have a completely different set of channels there that the rest of us cannot access.

I've found plenty of new content to watch across the channels in December.

You have to look hard for it, though! It is true to say that there is new content to watch, some of which is good quality (eg Peaky Blinders and The Good Doctor).

But these programmes are few and far between, scattered amongst hundreds of channels, whereas there used to be an abundance of good programmes on the BBC alone.
