Would you change your plans if you were able to view the Winter Olympics in UHD on demand? I doubt that we will get a channel broadcasting in UHD at this time.

Not a chance IMO.

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

Ampere Analysis report that in the next EPL bidding process due to commence, Sky and BT will remain the main bidders, with Amazon and/or Liberty Global going for the smaller packages available this time around. This is the first time I've read Liberty Global being mentioned.

https://www.rapidtvnews.com/20180123...#axzz550Kg2lKq

The most likely scenario for the analyst is that Sky takes four or five of the seven new packages made available while BT takes two or three and another bidder - for example most likely Amazon or Liberty - takes one or two. "Unlike the bidding for the 2017 to 2019 rights, life is now very much less certain. What has changed is the very real threat that Amazon will look to take at least some of the UK and later on, international rights," said Ampere Analysis research director Guy Bisson. "At the same time, domestically, Sky and BT's appetite to increase spend in line with the previous rates of inflation may have waned. The inflationary pressure will be focused on international rights and will be driven by the threat from Amazon and other potential new entrants."

Be sad if the EPL games were shared between 3 broadcasters, not to mention costly if like me you want to watch all live games.

That is the rub - competition raises prices, unless all games are available to all providers who pay for the rights, then the customer can go with the best/cheapest provider (that is real competition, and would stop the ever spiralling payments to PL - hence why it won't happen).

With the recent collaboration between sky and BT it would not surprise me if they collude to drive payments down or at least keep them where they are)

Re: ESPN, BT, Euro, Premier and Sky Sports news

If there was a 3rd party showing live EPL games then like me most would have to choose which one to ignore ,and the one with the fewest games would miss out in my household.
The ideal situation would be for one bundle for all providers as Raider999 says.

I'm with you on missing one of the suppliers.

Personally, I could live without the PL games on BT at present - however I like to watch Aviva Premier rugby which is on BT so their PL games are a bonus.

I won't be subscribing to any Streamers.

Similarily, I would like to watch the NRL rugby league games but will not pay silly money to watch it on a stream.

Why? Under the new system, there will be more games televised. There is nothing to prevent you from continuing to subscribe only to Sky and BT if you want to, assuming they win the same number of games as has been widely speculated.

Whoever wins under the new system, you will have to pay more if you want to see more games.

Ultimately, I think all games will be streamed. For how long you will be able to watch on conventional broadcast channels remains to be seen.

Not at all - if BT and Sky do carve up all the coverage they will find it difficult to justify an increase in prices even for a few extra games.

My previous post today, gives a solution to how competition should work - rights to all games available to those broadcasters who wish to pay for rights, customer then chooses which supplier to pay based on cost and viewer experience.

What we have at present is a way to fleece the customer.

As for streaming, NRL are streaming their games outside of Australia (and presumably New Zealand) likely cost £22pm - cannot see many taking up that particular offer (apart possibly from Aussie bars in London) - apparently there is a possibility of some games being on a platform such as sky

Not sure there's any Aussie bars left in London. Even London's last Walkabout closed last year.
