D-Link
1st, are the NTL 250 modems rubbish? i have a friend who says they are basically crap so iv gone out and brought a D-Link router, will this help push my ntl dsmal performance?
I cant host any games online with xbox360, he is on the same provider but has brought a new modem, he has been able to host for ages and im wondering if iv done the right thing impulse buying?
Also if there are and 360 users out there, can i use the usb adapter for the wireless receiver on my 360 - or do i HAVE to buy a official xbox one? <- im hoping not
Thanks in advance, Dan

Connecting a router to your modem will not improve the performance of the modem one iota.
What package are you on ? What download speeds (HTTP and file) are you receiving ?

Re: D-Link
Nothing wrong at all with any of the newer ntl modems 100,120,200, 250 AFAIK. The lower the number the lower the speed they can run at in some cases but for hosting games the ping should be identical across them all. You mates talking rubbish.

Re: D-Link
Im on 20 meg, and so is my mate
My mate has VM cable and he can host a sweet game, the only difference between his and my conncetion is the modem
The speeds im getting are like 5-10meg (estimate) and 720k upload, obv upload is your hosting speed, but my is so unstable litterally everyone crashed and freezes cos of my connection, and at 50k a person i should be able to host 12-14 people, and its so so frustraiting cos i havent got a clue why it does this.
thanks

Is this speed with or without the router attached to the modem ? 720k is just about fine on the upload side of things however your down speeds are of concern

ok, speedtests (which have been the subject of mass debate in my brief time on here) can be considered as to put it politely not the most accurate reporting tool.
You can try the two file similtaneous download to gain a more true attenuation of your speed.
or go to the MS website and download two big files off there and add your transfer rates together.

Re: D-Link
720k is the standard - what do you want us to do?

Sorry, but that upload is more than sufficient to host that kind of game.
I have a friend in Leeds on a much lower upload on his ADSL connection, it works just fine. The router won't make any difference at all.
