Re: HELP please Connection.

How are you trying to connect, wired or wireless?

What does happen?
If wireless do you get any signal?
Any IP address?
Any error messages?

What make & model is the laptop?

Re: HELP please Connection.

Remember if you are connecting via ethernet after removing it from your own equipment the modem must be powered down to clear the memory or you will find the new device cannot find the internet.

Re: HELP please Connection.

Check the settings for his network card. Make sure it is set to get IP address and DNS automatically.

Check if he has some funky ISPs software on the machine that could be messing with the connection settings. If so, uninstall it.

Re: HELP please Connection.

Go to control panel>have it in classic view> go to Network and Sharing centre>in tasks on the left click>manage my connections>right click on your LAN connection go down to properties and click on it>in the properties screen look for IPV4 and IPV6 and remove the tick in front of IPV6> click OK or exit, close all open screens and try for the internet.

Re: HELP please Connection.

IPV4 must remain ticked as that is your IP so ensure that it is done, just leave no tick in IPV6.

Reboot the modem and try to go online when all the lights settle.

Re: HELP please Connection.

When you double click on the IPV4 and it brings up it properties page ensure that the is no address in there and that the obtain DHCP and DNS are both ticked.

Also after the above open the Internet Explorer go to tools>internet options>advanced>click on reset > follow instructions and try for the internet.

Re: HELP please Connection.

Seems to be a known issue with some routers:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928233

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928152

Someone suggested disabling all file and printer sharing, which fixed it for him.

See thread here:
http://thevistaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=14072

lots of ideas..

Re: HELP please Connection.

the store supervisors talking about drivers is rather strange as you already have the right driver or it would'nt have worked in the US like it did, as its rj45 ethernet theres nothing needed other than that driver and the working network stack thats already there as it worked once.

its got nothing to do with IPv6 being selected or not,as that is totally seperate and doesnt effect any ipv4 settings or operation in any way.

by far the simplest thing to do is to just remove the entry for the ethernet card and have windows just auto-reinstall it, as that will then add in a brand new ethernet entry into the registry and everything should then be fine, try that.
