Re: Gigabit router
Glad you went for the router option and not the Modem > Router > Switch as you wouldn't have seen any speed benefit from it unless you did alot of large local lan file transfers.

Re: Gigabit router
I'm using the D-Link DIR 655 Router and I have just been into the 50Mb Modem settings and it states, Ethernet Link Status 1000 Mbps/Full duplex.
Does this mean that the Modem is connecting at the highest speed it can, depending on the speed of the Router and NIC, confused.....

That is the connection speed between the modem and router.
Which is the fastest it will achieve, It's not your internet speed.
Unfortunately.

Re: Gigabit router
Check out the LAN-to-WAN throughput.
It seems impossible to obtain this figure for most domestic routers - even gigabit ones.
You can find these figures for commercial routers but you'll need to get quite a big one to get over 50Mbps out of it.

Not true, i had a normal WRT54Gv5 with DD-WRT on it, WAN-LAN bandwith was over 80Mbps.

Re: Gigabit router
Got my new router yesterday, Very nice indeed.
Only slight problem is when I start my PC Vista 64 keeps asking for drivers for it, There are none????.
Weird.
