Re: Could Quest be coming to Freesat?

Last March, in response to a question on Twitter as to whether Quest would be coming to Freesat, Discovery replied "we're working on it".

As of today, Quest has started dual illuminating on the same transponder as Quest Red.

Could be a standard transponder move or something more significant...

Could just be to shunt bitrates around.
Eurosport showed Superbike World Championships exclusively on Quest at the weekend, so it is still being used as a taster for Eurosport.

Unless the new broadcast is via a spot beam I think this is unlikely to be a prelude to joining Freesat.

Re: Could Quest be coming to Freesat?

It is a spot beam Chris.

Freesat have now made some technical preparations to their EPG data to add Quest to 167 and Quest Red to 169.

The timeshift +1 channels won't be available on Freesat, but the gap suggests that they intend to add them in the future.

Looks to me like Discovery have managed to get a similar deal as UKTV after their carriage dispute to unshackle their free channels from Sky ie the parent channel is allowed to go onto Freesat, but the +1's remain encrypted for now.

Incidentally, 166 is vacant and wasn't used for Quest, which it is assumed will be used for another channel addition...

Re: Could Quest be coming to Freesat?

Quest and Quest Red are now broadcasting in the clear for those who wish to manually tune them in.

As Freesat normally add channels on a Tuesday, at a guess I'd say that that they will be added to Freesat on 4/7/17.
