Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
I've had a few but I need general anaesthesia as my gag reflex is very strong. I tried with sedation and local but still no good. I was quite relaxed and tried to swallow but no good.
I had acid reflux and this can cause the oesophagus lining to change and be more like the stomach and this is not a good thing. I now take Omeprazol (antacid) and am fine. I can't drink too many spirits as this causes issues but one or two every now and again is fine.
Fortunately my pacemaker wires prevent me having MRI. The last one I had was cardiac so had to be awake but you don't end up fully inside a tube for that but prior to that I needed a general. There are some MRI systems around that use a sort of doughnut and technology is getting faster too meaning you don't need to lay immobile for an extended period which is what really got me.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Sorry I haven't been around much lately ...
I am sure you will do fine weenie. I always have sedation plus the throat spray, and it's a lot easier than a Colonoscopy.
As tweetiepooh says the newer doughnut MRI is great. My hospital has the latest one and it's a lot faster and, as a result, I can deal with the claustrophobia that the slower machine always triggered.
I have heard a rumour that sometime next year there maybe an upright one installed which I think you just sit in which will be better still.

Knowing friends are going through awful things at the moment and not being able to do anything at all to help them. Why does life have to be so cruel?

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
I thought I had just missed the 10 past 3 bus home, but people waiting at the stop said it let a few people off, changed to "Setting down only", and buggered off.
Then the 20 to 4 bus didn't arrive.
Then the 10 past 4 bus turned up at half past 4!
Standing room only all the way home (40 minutes through backstreets).
Cardiff Bus' response to my email: "Situation beyond our control".
And during the long wait I also saw something I have never seen .... 8 buses "Out of Service", 7 buses "Setting Down Only" and 1 empty one marked "Merry Xmas!"

Sadly life does not go in straight comfortable lines Mark as all you can do is be there for your friends.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Anyone here having hearing problems?
Me I am now deaf as a post, having to rely on subtitles just to follow a TV program.
Just find it annoying that at times parts of a dialogue is missing, imagine it's like being told a joke but missing out on the punch line.
Seems BBC/ITV both use the same speech to dialogue program which misses out on part dialogues.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
Hi raging bull.
My husband is deaf, he wears 2 hearing aids which let him hear loud sounds but don't help at all with hearing what people say. He relies on lip reading and gets very frustrated when we are with people who mumble or don't face him, or on seeing the aids, talk to him as though he is simple.
As far as subtitles are concerned he finds them extremely frustrating and distracting as they rarely give an accurate reflection of what he knows is being said.

I totally agree with everything you've said. I also wear 2 hearing aids which allows me to hear certain sounds. Even at the cinema( IMAX) the sound can be deafeningly loud but I still can't understand a word that is being said. I can not watch anything without subtitles nor watch anything that is live as the subtitles just don't seem to work and it gets too frustrating, so tend to wait for the repeats which will have the correct timed subtitles.
Even those that know me still don't accommodate and speak a bit louder which is also annoying. You get fed up asking people to repeat themselves to the point you just nod and say yeah all the time.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates part 8
That must be very frustrating for everyone and I will be honest I have no experience of this, but what I did experience was not long before my Mother passed away and she was wheel chair bound people ignored her and spoke to either myself or my Dad.
On many occasions while taking my Mum for a short stroll, people often asked me how my Mum was doing this was despite my Mum being there right in front of them or if they did speak to my Mum they spoke to her as if she was a child, looking back this must have been very frustrating for my Mum.
My only regret now is I wish I had the nerve/guts at the time to tell them to speak to my Mum as I can only imagine the hurt this may have caused her.
If I ever find myself in this position like this again, I will ask them very discreetly to speak directly to the person. I know that I learned a lesson from this and I now make a conscious effort of speaking directly to the person in a wheel chair as who knows I may have been guilty of this action myself, although I do hope I didn't.

One of the reasons we never go to a till with a person on it anymore, we scan our own shopping as we walk around.
