He has so far won 3 titles in a row, last year beating a very good Liverpool side to it.

I have no idea how we have won the last two, we haven't played good football for two years, we have the odd display, but for the most part we have been efficient with a good defence. But we are a bore to watch. How Liverpool didn't win it last year I will never know, they wont win it under Benitez now. Chelsea will walk it unless we buy two world class players.
This reminded me of the time he played the Youth team in the League Cup and some minnow did us at OT, he dumped them all on loan and bar Evans got rid of them all. Like there was this great feeling, but only Ferguson believed it. Same with this lot.
Even when everyone is fit, it will still be the same, great players up front, solid defence, and no Central midfield, last two seasons Rooney and Ronaldo and to an extent Tevez hid it from view by holding the ball and tracking back, now all is left is Rooney, who was totally isolated tonight and it is sticking out like a sore thumb where we are weak.
You would have thought the Barcalona game was the wake up call he needed, maybe this will, but I doubt it. If there is one down side to Ferguson it is he is a stubborn so and so, if he says this squad is stong, then that is all there is to it, he better hope at least five of them suddenly hit a level of form they have yet to since we bought them.

Yep, that type of result happens now and again, but I am certainly not going to worry yet, after all it is only the second game of the season.
SAF won't feel the kick up the backside, but I wouldn't mind betting the players will
Oh and well done to Spurs !!!!!!!!!!!

Yes and no doubt the rumours will start, shame the season doesn't have a chance to get going before teams and managers are written off!

Yes, I wouldn't mind a bet that the usual four will be at the top come Christmas

It doesn't bode well though does it? Rooney worked his butt off and for what? Owen looked lost and if that wasn't humiliating enough he was subbed by donkey who wandered about like a zombie from a 50's B-movie. Fortunately it was only Burnley - had it been one of the other top teams then it would have been like watching Brazil against Wales.
SAF can spout off all day about the squad being strong, that another signing isn't needed and how "£80m was a great piece of business" but 2 games in and we're looking like a team that enjoys mid-table finishes. At this rate we're in serious trouble if Rooney takes an injury.

Russ, you of all people should know better.......Burnley are miles better than Wales
Seriously though........
Owen is new and has to get used to his new team.
Hargreaves is due back soon.
There are some fantastic youngsters coming through.
Hopefully Nani will now take on the mantle of Ronaldo if he has any sense.
Like I said earlier, nothing to worry about yet

Its a bad result but no need to over react. Utd have 3 points, in 07-08 after 3 games they only had 2, that season didn't go to bad for them.

Yes Hargreaves will be back but will tear his ACL getting off the team bus and be out for another 18 months, Owen will take about 6 games to find the net which will be the point where he gets a hat-trick then does bog-all for the rest of the season (or in footballing terms, he'll "do a berbatov") and Nani will do a Ji Park Sun and be all over the pitch without actually doing anything.
Call me a pessimist but....not getting a world-class striker during the summer will cost us.

Yeah I wouldn't worry, one of those nights, Utd could still be playing now and not score + Utd are notoriously slow starters.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010
It's not so much the fact that it was one of those games, it is that our Midfield has been suspect for some time, and it would seem any Sports writer worth his salt has mentioned it. This isn't a one of, it's been on the cards for 18 months. Rooney/Ronaldo/Tevez played in a Midfield/Forward Line and it made it (Midfield) look stronger than it was. Now Tevez and Ronaldo did rock all against Barca and it was highlighted then how weak it was.
And unless Nani, Anderson and Park hit form and sustain it for 20 games (they haven't managed it so far) we are going to struggle. £80Mill for Ronaldo was good business, right upto the point you don't spend it, then it is worthless. He has calmed the press down, the transfer system has calmed down, now is the time to go get someone.
I will hold my hands up and admit I have no idea who, but as Russ said, if Rooney gets an injury I wouldn't fancy beating anyone at the moment.
And he should have gone Park/Carrick off - Valencia/Berbatov on. Rooney Left. Valencia Right. Owen Up front. Berbatov in front of Anderson/Giggs. When you play Owen you just pang crosses in and shoot on site, just make sure you hit the target, it's rudimentary tactics. Ferguson is as bad as the players when it goes wrong.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010
Well done Burnley good result, but two games into the season is not the time to make rash judgements.
Unless Ferguson spends some of the money United got for Ronaldo I still feel United will miss Ronaldo more than Liverpool will miss Alonso over the coming season
Ronaldo has that ability to create something when opposition teams are tiring towards the end of the game, looking at the game last night I was wondering where that would come from.
An interesting season ahead? time will tell.

Re: Football : Season 2009/2010
Man U have no midfield and too many players who just aren't good enough. We have Giggs who is too old and can't play a full season, Anderson who has gone backwards since his excellent first season, Nani and Park who just aren't good enough and Scholes who is getting too old. Add in Fletcher who is just a squad player and it isn't great. We have Valencia but he didn't do much in the first game so impress me.
These are the players who will now have to play more games and they just aren't good enough.
Last season we had 14 games where we played rubbish but somehow won them, that is why we won the league, not sure if we can do that this time around
