Re: Whitchurch cardiff
Our daughter uses VM a bit further away, and has moaned recently about "only one bar". A few new masts have gone up these past few months just south of the village, but I have no idea who uses them.
If you pose your question on the community facebook page (Llandaff North & Whitchurch Daily Life Cardiff), you'll get responses I'm sure.
But expect some non-tech-savvy answers as people on there still complain about VM "turning the wifi off".

It was all a bit murky as to who they are using. I had a new SIM sent to me by VM ages ago.
This gives more details.

Re: Whitchurch cardiff
The new masts out front of the TA are operational, but no-one knows which network they are for, and no-one reports any improvements.
Several networks are dropping 3G in the next year or so, so that means a new phone for me. :-(
A lot of home smart meters run on 2G, so that part of the network is being supported, though coverage will become more and more spotty. If your phone is 2G it is time to upgrade to 4G.

The smart meter programme is due to be completed in 2024 and devices are expected to have a 15 year lifespan. Unless technological changes are made, this means the meters will be dependent on 2G until 2039. The same timespan can be applied to eCall-compatible vehicles, which can also use 3G networks.
The report also accepted the general industry view that 2G will be shut down before 3G. Although 3G has greater capacity than 2G, it lacks the coverage and power efficiency and has been superseded by 4G and 5G.
It is likely that other European nations will shut down their 2G infrastructure before the UK, meaning there will be some lessons to learn and best practices to adopt. The Forum is urging operators and regulators to work together to minimise the potential impact.
Potential solutions include the establishment of a single shared 2G network, clear switch off dates for the country’s three 2G services, and a cut off point for the sale and deployment of dependent devices and applications.

Re: Whitchurch cardiff
The only thing that attracts me to the village these days is a Big Breakfast in Cooper's Cafe, and of course, that has been closed for the past year.
I don't even drive through any more since the rehash of the junction outside The Plough.
I turned on my mobile earlier (it rarely gets used) and I could only get 1 bar intermittently in the house, and a solid 1 in the front garden. Our daughter gets the same. Something is going on.

Beppy's Cafe used to be nice. But one bad meal years ago put me off the place.
