Help wiring cat6 "A" socket to cat5e patch panel

I have been installing a small wired network in a to-be workroom using "dado trunking". The wire and wall sockets are all cat6 and I chose the T568A variant wiring. The wires all go to a 12-way cat5e patch panel built into the trunking.

My problem is that I can't work out which wires to connect. Belatedly, considering the "A" choice, I noticed the T568B notice on the panel, but figured I could just swap the orange & green pairs and all would be well.

However when I tested it with the test meter instead of the tester lights going 1..8 on each end as expected, on the remote end they jumped all over the place. So I figured I'd got it wrong and started again at the panel end. This time I connected it exactly as the colour key indicated. I get:

1..8 maps to 3,6,1,4,5,2,7,8

which doesn't seem right!

Can anyone help sort me out?

Do both ends have a small colour diagram colour coding which wires go where?

You crossed the wires somewhere - each end should go 1-1, 2-2, 3-3, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6,7-7,8-8 on the tester - I have one of those.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, both ends do, although the socket end - the non-panel end - the diagram includes both 568A and 568B in one small image...

Anyway, I know the wires should go like that, but as far as I can tell I have done the right thing already... obviously I haven't but I can't see why.

I would just take that info and swap them.
