Funny how they are now using MTN for placeholder channels which never actually launch. It's almost as if they are channel squatting.

As Channel 4 rent out it new slot to That's Media.

BBC B has 10.5Mb/s free

*That more for two new HD Channels to launch BBC News HD than S4C HD/BBC Scotland HD. Then BBC Three HD can launch in Wales and Scotland.
*Up to 10 SD Channels on Freeview.

You may say BBC can't rent out BBCB.

Yes they can as S4C HD (In wales), ITV HD, UTV HD, STV HD, Channel 4 HD, Channel 5 HD, TBN UK and 5SELECT broadcast on BBCB right now.

Yes they can as S4C HD (In wales), ITV HD, UTV HD, STV HD, Channel 4 HD, Channel 5 HD, TBN UK and 5SELECT broadcast on BBCB right now.

D3&4 is 50/50 ITV/C4 with Channel 5 gifted capacity in the ITV half and S4C gifted capacity on the C4 half but only in Wales. BBC A isn't allowed to sell any slots to third parties but BBC B is a commercial licence run in the same way as BBC Studios / UKTV. The problem with BBC B is that the BBC hasn't yet committed to extending its licence past its current expiry of November 2026. So they won't be entering into new long term contracts.

D3&4 used to be divided into 2 parts and each half would carry an equal number of channels. ITV channels were all stat-muxed and C4 channels were stat-muxed separately then the 2 halves were "stitched" together. It was very inefficient. I think all of the channels are now stat-muxed in one operation, which is more efficient. I'm not going to try to get the data to check that out and do the maths to confirm it but it is the sensible way to do things. Historically though, there should always be an even number of channels on the multiplex. If they are renting capacity to other broadcasters, it would make sense to do it jointly rather than individually. It's always been a weird multiplex though, they allocate bands of channels in decimal ranges rather than hexadecimal. But this is getting a wee bit too technical.

-Together TV slot on SDN/COM4 not in Wales (6pm to Midnight only)
