Just finished checking over my Japanese banana palm: After the frost a week or two ago it was looking a bit sad. I've trimmed all the dead fronds back to solid stumps, needed a step ladder as it's getting quite tall, the inner core is still bright green so it looks OK. Now it and the side shoots (pups), one of which is already ~3 feet tall, are fully swaddled in horticultural fleece.
Fortunately hard, all day, frosts are rare down here near the coast. That -3°C caught me off guard.
My other three palms: Australian, Canary Island and jelly
(Butia Capitata) are fully hardy to below -10°C even though they look tender.
