Where's all my spam gone?
I'd been getting 20-30 spam and phishing emails to my main Hotmail/Outlook account for ages. The usual garbage ranging from Russian brides and FaceBook message warnings to Peruvian impotence aids and offers to join the Labour Party at a discount rate :D Mostly the messages were spoofed to appear to come from my own account and nearly all of them were clearly linked to a couple of website addresses.
Anyway a few days ago they suddenly stopped. I'm still getting a couple of random ones a day but the plethora of spam and phishing messages linked to these 2 websites have just gone and I'm wondering why. Has MS suddenly done something about what I know has been a problem for years? I haven't seen anything online about this so just wondering if anyone here can explain this change for the better. TIA as always. :tu: |

oh, I would wish that the same happens to me. It looks like that you have a spam filter. I am just curious how to switch on this spam filter...

If you are getting spam in your Inbox you can set 'rules' which allow you to pick common words used in the titles of spam message and divert any mail which contains those words to your junk folder or delete folder. If you look on YouTube for Hotmail inbox rules or something similar you'll find some examples of how to set them. This only works for spam which is actually getting into your Inbox and obviously you need to select words which aren't going to occur in your ordinary mail headings. These might include stuff related to gambling, casinos, dating, PPI claims and a plethora of 'adult' words for example. |

I'm just wondering if anyone else has had the same happen. I can't find any mention of this on the internet which I'd have thought wouldn't be the case if MS had suddenly resolved such an annoying issue for their users. |
Re: Where's all my spam gone?
Back in dial-up days I returned from a 2 week holiday to over 3,500 emails.
It took two hours to download, and at least another 3 to sort and delete. |

Most I've had is about 30 in a day which amounts to about 400 over that period. That's just spam though. |

I think a lot of email providers have got together and sorted out black lists.
I get the odd dodgy one get through but I just delete them. |

Re: Where's all my spam gone?
Thank you for your replies! Well, I think I will find the way to get rid of the spam... at least I hope.
May I ask which kind of spam did you get? Was it some strange websites, banks, some personal emails etc? |

I was wondering if someone in 'the know' here might say ah yes, MS have just revamped the email services and that's why you've seen the big drop in spam. It's such an annoying issue for so many MS users that, if it is a sort of 'fix', I'm surprised more people haven't popped up on the internet celebrating. Anyway it's still all good here, just 1 or 2 a day and none spoofed. :) |
Re: Where's all my spam gone?
Spam filters get better, a code change from Microsoft or maybe you were being hit but one or two sources who got taken down.

Re: Where's all my spam gone?
There's been a trickle of Spam into both my inbox and junk folders recently and yesterday I got the first message spoofed to look like it came from my own account. Today 2 more identical spoofed emails and checking the message source they are linked to the domains I referred to in my original post. It's not a huge problem but I'd love to know why domains like these just can't be blocked shut down or whatever.
